BAND
“Pride of the Tribe” Marching Band
Members of all band classes (Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Percussion and Color Guard) form the
“Pride of the Tribe” Marching Band. The “Pride of the Tribe” performs at all home football games, select away football
games, community parades (Kingsport 4th of July and Christmas Parade) and national performances such as the Rose
Parade and Macy’s Parade. Members of the “Pride of the Tribe” (all band members) must attend summer band camp and
have mandatory after school rehearsals once a week during August, September and October.
Competition Marching Band
The Dobyns-Bennett Competition Marching Band is selected by invitation from members of the entire band program. The
Competition Band performs at regional and national marching band competitions. Members of the Competition Band
must attend summer band camp and have mandatory after school rehearsals twice a week during August, September
and October.

Advanced Instrumental Techniques allows students to work with directors in a small group setting to improve individual
playing skills. This course gives students a chance to play in smaller ensembles such as brass or woodwind quintets or
trios. Students get help preparing for auditions and are exposed to solo as well as ensemble literature. This class is open
to any 10th, 11th, and 12th graders that are currently enrolled in a band or orchestra singleton. This includes brass class,
woodwind class, percussion class or chamber orchestra

Students develop individual and group musical skills. During the first term, all brass members combine with students from
other band classes to form the Marching Band. This course requires after-school practices as well as some weekend
performances.
