               This course teaches painting and art production with an emphasis placed on the Design Principles and the use of the
               Elements of Art. Students will explore the water based mediums of watercolor and acrylic paint. Students will learn a
               variety of brush techniques, painting effects, and color theory study. Students will learn historical context and applicable
               artists related to the techniques and processes explored. Students are expected to produce high quality work with an
               emphasis on excellence in craftsmanship

               Prerequisite: Drawing, with a recommendation letter from the drawing teacher or Advanced Drawing
               This course is for the student who is planning a career in an art-related field.  Studio Art (Honors) is part one of two in
               the preparation for the Advanced Placement Studio Art Portfolio Exam Submission.  A student must be enrolled in this
               class in order to continue in Studio Art AP during the spring semester. The student enrolled in this course will begin
               preparing a body of work for the Advanced Placement Studio Art Course offered Spring Semester.  The student will
               advance drawing and painting skills and expand visual communication abilities by exploring a variety of drawing
               processes, techniques, compositions and aesthetic concepts. Through practice, experimentation, application of drawing
               concepts, creative thinking and informed decision making, students will assemble a personal body of artwork that
               demonstrates a high level of quality and growth over time in content, technique, innovation and process.  This course
               will require the student to produce work beyond classroom time and some summer assignments.

               Studio Art (Advanced Placement)

               Early Post-Secondary Opportunity: Advanced Placement Exam
               Prerequisite: Honors Studio Art Fall Semester.
               This course is a college level course in which students may earn college credit based on their portfolio scores.  This
               course is for the student who is planning a career in an art-related field.  The student will advance drawing and painting
               skills and expand visual communication abilities by exploring a variety of drawing processes, techniques, compositions
               and aesthetic concepts.  Through practice, experimentation, application of drawing concepts, creative thinking and
               informed decision making, students will assemble a personal body of artwork that demonstrates a high level of quality
               and growth over time in content, technique, innovation and process. Students will produce works that satisfy the
               requirements of  Advanced Placement Studio Art Portfolio.  This course will require the student to produce works beyond
               classroom time and some summer assignments.



               Studio Art (Honors and Advanced Placement) classes will be offered if there is a satisfactory number of student
               requests for each course.  The course(s) will be canceled if the enrollment number is below a satisfactory level.
